Phoenix Theatre – insider guide

Phoenix Theatre – classic outside, fun inside

The Phoenix Theatre was built in 1930. It looks classical on the outside but on the inside it has fun Italian-style design.

Where is the Phoenix Theatre?

It’s at the top end of Charing Cross Road and the nearest tube is Tottenham Court Road. When you arrive at the front of the theatre, don’t go in unless you want the box office. The real entrance is down a side street to the right of the theatre as you look at it.

It has just over a thousand seats spread between the Stalls, the Dress Circle and the Grand Circle, which frankly isn’t very grand.

Which are the best seats at the Phoenix theatre?

The rake and staggering (so you can see between the people in front) is good throughout most of the seating. I’ve sat about half way back in both the Stalls and Dress Circle and found the view good. I would avoid seats to the sides where, depending on the show, the view could be restricted. Also I’ve been told that, if you sit in row E or nearer the front of the stalls, you may not see the performers’ feet.

Where can I buy tickets for shows at the Phoenix Theatre?

The theatre is part of the ATG group so you should phone their booking line 0844 871 7629 or visit their website atgtickets.com

INSIDER TIP: If you’re a regular visitor to West End theatres, it’s worth becoming an ATG Theatrecard member. They run a dozen theatres in London and more around the UK. You save money and get free ticket exchange and other benefits.

What are the facilities like?

Toilets also are at every level but with limited numbers of cubicles.

INSIDER TIP: You may find the Stalls toilets crowded because they’re at ground floor level. I’d nip up to the Dress Circle.
